Crossovers are a popular option for families and individuals who want the versatility of a larger SUV with the feel of a sedan. Many crossover models, like the Chevy Equinox, have come to offer multiple engine options and other means of customization.
For instance, the 2020 Equinox is available with either a standard 1.5-liter 4-cylinder LYX engine or an available turbo 2.0-liter upgrade. Evidently, the 1.5-liter engine — which delivers 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque — is enough for 93 percent of buyers. Since the turbocharged upgrade wasn’t getting much attention, Chevy has decided to drop it for the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox.
The turbo 2.0-liter I-4 LTG in the 2020 Equinox upgraded its power to 252 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped with the trailering package, the turbo 2.0-liter engine allows the 2020 Equinox to tow up to 3,500 pounds. Drivers need only use the Tow/Haul mode button to adjust the transmission for towing motor bikes or small camping trailers.
Although the 9-speed automatic transmission may get carried over to the 2021 Equinox, the peppy 2.0-liter is officially out of the picture. Fortunately, we still have a number of 2020 Chevy Equinox models on our lot at Courtesy Chevy Buick GMC Cadillac. If you prefer a crossover with extra capability and more power under its hood, hurry to schedule a test drive in a 2020 Equinox before this model year is gone for good.
